Aki
Aki is a champion roller-blader at the national league level, and a very celebrated and popular sports star. He is also several cards short of a full deck. When it comes to roller-blading, he is incredibly serious about his sport, and about training; he trains ferociously, every day, never letting anything interfere with his schedule, and he makes sure that his gear and his body are always in tip-top shape. But once he takes his rollerblades off, he is dreamy, flighty, confused, and forgetful to a point that can infuriate even the most unflappable, patient people. He's the type of guy who would wander in front of a mack truck because he was following an imaginary butterfly, or who will go swimming fully clothed because he believed there was treasure at the bottom of the pool. (And the treasure would probably consist of a handful of wet sand and a dead flower.) Thankfully, he has Ufyu and Ahru to take care of him; the two are incredibly loyal and also possessive almost to a fault. Between them, they make sure that Aki gets the important things done (like eating, bathing, and sleeping) and do their best to keep him entertained and happy while taking care of him and stopping him from doing anything stupid. Aside from actual sporting events, when he is on the ball, they keep him out of the public eye as much as possible. As a result, there are a myriad of rumours about him in the sporting world, most of which are wildly untrue. At any rate, his fans (and critics) are largely unaware of just how spacey he is really is. He wears his eyepatch at all times, even when blading, and there are many rumours about what sort of injury it really covers, but no-one, least of all Aki, will admit to the truth, even when asked.

"Wow, you catch on slow."

Ufyu
Ufyu is Aki's technician and also his protector and keeper, along with Ahru. He is a laidback, cynical young man with a sharp, biting sense of humour. He is unusually intelligent and has a tendency to enjoy mocking those who are not as smart as him, or who can't keep up with his wit or his other choices of topic. However, this attitude is never applied to Aki; with Aki, he has the patient of a saint and the kindness to match. He keeps Aki's rollerblading gear in prime condition, or when necessary talks Aki into upgrading or replacing it. He also manages Aki's finances for him, as the boy is largely incapable of doing so himself. He, Aki and Ahru have been friends since their early teens, and are unfailingly devoted to each other. Even when Aki is at his worst he will always recognise Ufyu and Ahru. Occasionally, Ufyu has been heard in passing to wistfully recall their childhood days and a time when Aki was clearminded, leaving one with the impression that something occured to make Aki the way he is now. The fleeting guilt that crosses Ufyu's face at these times would further make one suspect that perhaps Ufyu had something to do with it, or at the very least, feels guilty for whatever happened. But largely, Ufyu does not speak of the past but rather focuses on the present and the future. He is pragmatic and realistic, knowing that Aki's career will not last forever and he works hard to make the most of Aki's ability now, and to manage the boy's finances wisely so that he will have no trouble surviving even after his skills have left him. Whether he considers what he himself and Ahru will do at that time is unknown, but his devotion to Aki implies that he is determined to stick around for the long haul.

Ahru
Ahru's official title is Aki's trainer but ostensibly he, like Ufyu, is Aki's protector and keeper. He manages Aki's daily schedule, not only giving him a regimented routine for training and keeping fit, but also entering him in competitions or events as he sees necessary. Ahru is more uptight than Ufyu, and spends a lot more time worrying and fretting about things, but he shares Ufyu's sense of humour and enjoys joking around with him. The two have been known to reduce each other to tears of laughter on many occasions. He is also quite actively a non-conformist, and makes a point of dressing oddly and doing things that go against the commonly held perception of 'normal'. However, he never pushes this to any sort of degree that might hinder Aki's career, as it is very important to him that Aki is successful. Like Ufyu, Ahru is incredibly patient and gentle with Aki, and devotes a great deal of time and energy to Aki's well-being. He enjoys seeing Aki smile and gets great pleasure out of watching Aki train, knowing how much Aki loves his sport. When he or the others are questioned about Aki's odd behaviour, or why Aki wears an eyepatch, Ahru has occasionally been known to fly into a temper and get quite aggressive. This is very out of character behaviour for him, and it only needs a quiet word from Ufyu to calm him down, but it is obvious that it is a touchy subject with him. While obviously devoted to Aki, what is less known about Ahru is his devotion to and adoration of Ufyu. He would follow Ufyu anywhere, and do anything Ufyu asked of him. However he knows that Aki comes first in Ufyu's life, and he has never shared his true feelings with Ufyu... and it appears Ufyu is so far oblivious to them.
