Imph (pronounced imf)

Imph is the lead singer and guitarist of the most popular local rock band, BrainLego. Imph is a dreamer and has a rather flighty nature, but he is serious about his music career and has very big plans for his band. He has a fairly deep voice that has been described as having a 'thick sound, like what caramel might sound like if it were musical'. He writes all of his lyrics and co-writes much of the band's music with Anyuu and Emshi. His lyrics tend to be somewhat obscure and at times depressing; he tends to write about whatever issues upset him the most, be they his personal feelings or larger societal problems. He is a very emotional boy and tends to act on his feelings rather than applying logic, and as such, his actions can sometimes be irrational. However he is aware that he does this and does his best to reign himself in. He can often be found to overreact to something at first, only to come back later and apologise for his behaviour once he has calmed down. Imph is somewhat vain and cares a lot about his appearance; while his fashion style does not fit any particular popular type or category, he prides himself on living up to his own definition of 'cool' and puts much care and thought into his daily appearance. Anyuu is his best friend since primary school (a virtue of luck as the two happened to sit together in third grade) and though at times their relationship can be awkward (for they can get easily upset with each other when stressed) their friendship is firm and they rely on each other to a degree that is almost symbiotic.

Anyuu

Anyuu is the bass guitarist and dissafected 'emo' member of BrainLego. His nature is quite surly and he tends to speak quite sharply, not bothering to pad his words with tact or politeness. For the most part, he has very little interest in other people, and prefers the company of his bass guitar, or his computer. Imph is one of the few exceptions to this rule, and it is said that Imph is the only person who can bring a smile to Anyuu's face. When forced to attend a party or after-concert event, Anyuu can either be found hiding in the corner or else monopolizing Imph's time away from other partygoers. Anyuu is a genius with the bass guitar and provides a very complex and unique underlying rhythm to BrainLego's music that is said to be one of their most outstanding features. He has often been quoted as saying that without the bass rhythm to hold it together, modern music is pointless and meaningless. He is also quite clever with a computer and at times provides the electronic elements or sampling found in some of the band's music. Anyuu can often get frustrated with the happy-go-lucky nature of Emshi, his younger brother, and can be quite short with him at times, but he cannot deny the importance of Emshi in the band, and despite the surly tone he takes with him the two have a fairly amicable relationship.

Emshi

Emshi is Anyuu's younger brother (by a year) and the baby of the group. He was the last member to join BrainLego after Imph happened to overhear him playing his keyboard while visiting Anyuu's house. Though Anyuu was somewhat reluctant to add his brother to the band, it soon became apparent that the three worked very well together musically. Emshi is the main songwriter for the band, although he always works together with Imph and Anyuu as he says that all ideas work better when brainstormed with others. He is cute, cheerful, and bubbly, as full of laughter and sunshine as his brother is full of surliness and angst. He loves to play and have fun, and he loves the company of other people; when at parties he is something of a social butterfly. He seems to have an inate self-confidence and is very forward and personable; he never seems to doubt himself, but rather rushes into everything headlong. His cute nature and look is very popular with the group's fans and has his own 'fanclub' of squealing girls who dominate his side of the stage during concerts. He is very fond of his older brother, Anyuu, and strives to maintain a good relationship with him. Anyuu's constant dissafected attitude and sharp words seem to have little effect on him; like water off a duck's back, he lets them go and is always able to laugh, tease, and talk easily to his brother.

Inka

Inka is the president of Emshi's fanclub. He is a huge fan of Emshi but, worried about what the keyboardist might think of having male fans fangirling over him, he dresses as a girl and pretends to be a girl when attending concerts or events; he has a fairly high-pitched voice and a quite girlish face, and so far has managed to fool everyone, including the other fan club members. He is a confident and outgoing young man, easily excitable and at times somewhat flighty. He runs the fan club together with his best friend, Aurora. Because of Emshi's well-known love of teddy bears, the fanclub logo is a bear, and members often wear shirts with teddy bears on them. They also all carry bears and wear bear ear headbands when attending events, to mimic (and support) their beloved Emshi. In addition, Emshi has admitted a love of stripes, and pink, so pink striped socks, stockings, or other accessories are popular with the fan club members. Most of these clothing/accessory ideas were instigated by Inka when he first started the fan club. He enjoys running the club and devotes much of his spare time to it, including holding events for the girls to get together and socialise, and running a website and online forum for them. Although he realises it is somewhat weird to spend much of his free time masquerading as a girl, he finds it more amusing than anything, and enjoys the company of his fellow fan club members. He harbours secret fantasies of meeting Emshi and having a relationship with him, but he is smart enough to realise this is nothing more than fantasy, and doesn't care to try to make it a reality. Instead, he simply enjoys idolizing Emshi from afar. He and Aurora have an on-again-off-again relationship; he loves his best friend very much and tries to give him what he can to make him happy, even though he recognises that he is not exactly what Aurora is seeking.

Aurora

Aurora is Inka's best friend and the vice-president of the Emshi fanclub. Like Inka, he adores Emshi but masquerades as a girl at concerts and events for fear of scaring off the keyboardist. The fanclub was initially his idea but he approached Inka to start it as he did not feel confident to do so on his own. As such, Inka refers to him as the president "in the shadows" and makes all club decisions equally with him. He is quieter and less confident than Inka, and not as comfortable at socializing; while he enjoys the company of others, small talk does not come easily to him, and at club events he often lets Inka steal the spotlight while he simply follows in his wake, soaking up the atmosphere. He is a dreamer who spends a great deal of time inside of his head, and is not so in touch with the reality of the world around him. Like Inka, he has fantasies of meeting Emshi and starting a relationship with him, but unlike Inka, he does not recognise these fantasies as farfetched and keeps hoping and waiting for the right opportunity to occur. After concerts or other events involving the band he can often go home somewhat depressed -- despite his good mood during the event itself -- as yet another event has passed without him getting any closer to Emshi personally. He believes that Inka looks very similar to Emshi, and convinced his friend to get a similar haircut to the guitarist so as to look more like him. When at his most frustrated, he instigates intimacy with Inka, and pretends that his friend is Emshi. Afterwards, he is often ashamed of this behaviour, but Inka has never seemed to hold it against him; the two have remained close friends through even the most awkward of situations, and he is very grateful for this.
